You are correct that the subdomain should exist first before installing RT. For the tutorial notes, I have now edited that area about the rt.conf line as you are entirely correct that I didn't have the user cd to the right path before editing the file.

As for the Include line in httpd.conf, I didn't have to uncomment it on mine, so I'm not certain why yours did. It was already there as a regular include without any # at the beginning in my httpd.conf. I'll have to check another one on how it works to see if after trying to distill it whether it uncomments the line or not.
